The DTC is a non-refundable tax credit that reduces income tax for individuals with severe and prolonged impairments. For 2026, the federal base amount is $9,913, providing a federal credit of up to $1,486.95 (15% of $9,913). Provincial amounts vary.
The CDB is a monthly payment (up to $200/month or $2,400/year) for low-income working-age adults (18–64) who are approved for the DTC. Payments began July 2025. It is income-tested: full benefit up to $23,000 adjusted family net income (after a $10,000 working exemption).
Federal base: $9,913. Provincial base amounts (age 18+): ON $10,017, BC $9,699, AB $16,882, QC $18,952. The calculator uses these values with the lowest provincial tax rate.
